It's uncomfortable to read, but also a timely novel that demands a place in the spotlight. But from time to time, Wendig delves into the most horrific aspects of a pandemic and offers chilling passages packed with poetic brutality that show readers what could happen to us at any moment. Small personal narratives of survival, trauma, and loss fill its pages and serve as cohesive elements to hold the apocalypse together. Wendig is extremely political, but science is at the core of his story the discussions his scientists have are based on real events, and that makes everything feel uncomfortably plausible. A dystopian, apocalyptic novel that comfortably occupies a space between horror and science fiction, Wanderers is full of social commentary that digs into everything from global warming to racial tension, while never preaching or bogging down the action-packed story. ![]() ![]() ![]() Ito’s art style in particular, as well as his uniquely disturbing stories, have always stood out among others in the genre. A few themes that I would consider mentioning are insanity, corruption of power, isolation, abandonment, and manliness. There are many themes that come up throughout this book. ![]() This novel portrays that fact that war changes a soldier in many ways to the point of insanity through its many different conditions and difficulties. As his character develops further into the war, the reader can analyze the changes that Robert has gone through because of the war. ![]() As you read further into the book, you begin to learn about the main character Robert Ross and his morals and values he abides by. Findley not only shows the physical aspect to war, but also the mental aspect and what the war does to a person psychologically. But when you actually get down to the core of the novel, you really see much a more spectacular message sent within the novel. ![]() At first I thought this novel was going to be about blood and war, hence why I chose the book. In all honesty, I don’t normally read much literature unless I am forced to for an assignment, for say, like this one, but seriously this book is intriguing to the audience in so many ways. All in all, I found The Wars to be one of the most interesting war books I have ever read. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() He also talks about diets that are incredibly high in calories, but because the foods in that diet do not increase the amount of insulin your body produces then those calories do not get stored in or on your body as efficiently or at all as fat.
